Sometimes when we’re nervous about doing something, our hands aren’t as steady as we want them to be, That can be especially true when we are learning to butcher Coturnix quail for the first time.
If a bird wiggles it’s way from your hands as you are dispatching, things can get messy. You can miss your mark, causing unnecessary suffering for the bird. Or blood can get splattered in areas you didn’t intend for it to go.
Things can get messy. Literally.
So to prevent that problem,
- grab a small kids sock
- cut a small hole at the toe
- toll up the sock
- put if over your quail
- pull in down over the wings
The quail’s wings will remain snugly at its side. And the slight pressure will help it remain calm so you can concentrate on doing things right.
Once you’ve got the hang of butchering, you won’t need the sock anymore!
